I met the love of my life shortly after high school. We married in 1973, raised two awesome daughters and this October celebrated our 40th anniversary. I spent 14 years working as a Theme Reader at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School before I became the primary caregiver for my mother who suffered from Alzheimers. After her death in 2001, I decided to write about my experience with caregiving. Mainly this was therapeutic for me. It was an unexpected surprise when my book As I Walked With My Mother was published. I now go around doing presentations to groups interested in learning about this devastating illness. You will find excerpts from my book on my website.
Ever since I turned 50, I started a
to-do-list. I've completed many things on the list such as parasailing, swimming with sting rays and dolphins, taking a helicopter flight over Hawaii, ballooning in Colorado, whitewater rafting and recently on a family vacation, hiking down the Grand Canyon.
In June of 2009, my daughter and I went on our annual mother-daughter get together to Alaska. We took a helicopter flight and landed on Mendenhall Glacier. While up on the glacier, we went dogsledding. It felt like a dream.
The problem is everytime I check something off my list, I add more. Now is the best time of life!
