Sharon M. Burchard Tule

Jim and I have been married for 36 years. We started out in North Carolina where he was a forest biologist for Weyerhaeuser. I had attended Montgomery County Community College for two years so once we moved to NC I returned to school. I received my bachelors degree and my masters degree from East Carolina University. We spent about 10 years there before moving to Texas. I taught for many years at various grade levels before becoming a school administrator. I attended Lamar University were I received my mid-management certification and then superintendent certification. I have been a school district superintendent for 8 years. Recently my school district suffered a tremendous amount of damage from Hurricane Ike. The school district provides a home for me and it was completely destroyed by the storm. Luckily, the home that Jim and I own on Lake Toledo Bend was spared from the wrath of Ike.

There are only two things that really stick in my head from high school days. The first is that I did not get chosen to be in South Pacific because I did not audition well enough. My "cue" was someone just knocked at my door and I am in curlers. What would I do. I guess in high school it was a big deal. Today it's like - oh well! The other thing I remember is being told by our high school counselor when I was a senior that I was not college material and that I should just get married and stay home and have babies. Well - I took some of his advice!!!!
