Len D. Garner

Former North Gwinnett boys basketball coach Len Garner  passed away over the weekend, his family announced on social media.

Garner, who had been ill in recent years, and his wife Ann were married for 52 years.  His relationships with Ann, Matt, Hayley (Matt’s wife) and their children were truly worthy of imitation. He was a faithful believer, a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring brother, a loyal friend and an amazing grandfather,”

Garner, 74, coached basketball for more than 40 years at the high school, middle school and college levels in Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. He also coached football, track and field and girls basketball during his career, including time as a soccer and tennis coach at the college level.

Prior to moving to Georgia, Garner coached at King College (now King University) in Bristol, Tenn. Garner also was an assistant coach at Centre College in Danville, Ky., helping the program to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 1989.

Garner was a native of Pennsylvania, born in Lancaster to Lester and Pearl Garner. He is survived by his two sisters, Cindy and Vanessa.

After graduating from Norristown (Penn.) High School, Garner earned his undergraduate degree from Murray State University, and his master’s degree from Indiana University.

He was a great guy, I havent seen him since high school, but we grew up together living 2 houses apart on Denise rd in East Norriton. I remember one night  we pitched a tent in Lens back yard, but it started to rain heavily and we had to spend the rest of the night inside. His sister Vanessa, and my 2 sisters were close friends growing up. so sorry to hear
